The other group participated in the same classes without the music. For the final six months of the study, the groups changed exercise routines.

At the end of the study, it was determined those who exercised to the piano music saw an increase in balance and overall function. These increases were more significant than the improvements seen in the group that exercised without music. The improvements reversed when the groups were switched. In addition to reducing the number of falls the elderly experience, music during exercise also improved walking speed and stride length, as well as overall gait.
